Ministerial praise heaped on Southampton Primary Schools. Two Southampton primary schools have received ministerial congratulations based on their 2015 results. Following the publication of the 2015 performance tables, the Minister of State for Schools, Nick Gibb MP, highlighted the success of Moorlands Primary School as the ‘Most Improved School 2012-2015’ and Thornhill Primary School as the ‘Best Voluntary Aided (VA) School’. Writing to Caroline Potter, head teacher of Moorlands Primary, Mr Gibb MP noted that the school was amongst the top 100 best performing UK schools in terms of pupils attainment at level 4 or above in reading, writing and mathematics for the years 2012-15. In his letter to Thornhill Primary School head teacher, Kerry Stamp, Mr Gibb MP recognised that they were in the 100 top performing UK schools in terms of the progress made by their pupils between Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2. This great news from our primary schools follows hot on heels of an announcement that St Anne’s Catholic School has been named as one of the top 1% of schools in the country. The performance tables also revealed that 85% of Southampton pupils currently attend a ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ school. www.southampton.gov.uk/news/article.aspx?id=tcm:63-378296
